Traded on draft night for the rights to Chris Webber, Penny Hardaway quickly made the Orlando Magic look like the winners of that deal, pairing with Shaquille O'Neal to reach the 1995 NBA Finals in his second season. Born July 18, 1971, in Memphis, Tennessee. Height 6 ft 7 in (201 cm).
He starred at Memphis (1991–1993), earning consensus first-team All-American honors. Drafted 3rd overall by the Golden State Warriors in 1993 and immediately traded to Orlando, he spent six seasons there before a 1999 trade to the Phoenix Suns; injuries progressively limited him through later stints with the New York Knicks and Miami Heat.
Nicknamed "Penny," Hardaway was a four-time NBA All-Star (1995–1998) and twice made the All-NBA First Team (1995, 1996), briefly considered a worthy heir to Michael Jordan before knee injuries derailed his prime.
Career totals: 10,684 points (15.2 ppg), 3,525 assists (5.0 apg), 3,146 rebounds (4.5 rpg) over 14 seasons.
He won an Olympic gold medal with Team USA in 1996. He is now the head coach of his alma mater, the Memphis Tigers.
