Career timeline, milestones, and place among all-time greats.
At 22 years old, Derrick Rose became the youngest MVP in NBA history — and then, the following season, tore his ACL in the playoffs, the first in a string of injuries that reshaped the rest of his career. Born October 4, 1988, in Chicago, Illinois. Height 6 ft 3 in (191 cm).
He played one season at Memphis (2007–2008), leading the Tigers to the national championship game. Drafted 1st overall by his hometown Chicago Bulls in 2008, he won Rookie of the Year before his historic 2011 MVP season. He later played for the New York Knicks, Cleveland Cavaliers, Minnesota Timberwolves, Detroit Pistons, a second Knicks stint, and the Memphis Grizzlies.
A three-time NBA All-Star (2010–2012), Rose made the All-NBA First Team in 2011, the same year he averaged a career-high 25.0 points per game. Injuries limited him for much of the rest of his 16-season career, though he remained a productive scorer in stretches, including a 50-point game in 2018.
Career totals: 12,573 points (17.4 ppg), 3,770 assists (5.2 apg), 2,324 rebounds (3.2 rpg) over his career.
His No. 1 was retired by the Chicago Bulls. He retired in 2024.
