His name lives on beyond basketball — the band Pearl Jam originally called themselves "Mookie Blaylock" before settling on their eventual name, a strange footnote to a career built on some of the quickest hands in the league. Born March 20, 1967, in Garland, Texas. Height 6 ft 0 in (183 cm).
After a standout junior college career at Midland, he played at Oklahoma (1987–1989), helping lead the Sooners to the 1988 national championship game. Drafted 12th overall by the New Jersey Nets in 1989, he was traded to the Atlanta Hawks in 1992, spending seven seasons there before closing his career with the Golden State Warriors.
A one-time NBA All-Star (1994), Blaylock led the league in steals twice (1997, 1998) and made the All-Defensive First Team twice, recording more than 200 steals in a season five times over his career.
Career totals: 11,962 points (13.5 ppg), 5,972 assists (6.7 apg), 2,075 steals (2.3 spg) over his 13-season career.
His No. 10 is honored by the University of Oklahoma.
