"Fo', Fi', Fo'" — his famous playoff prediction became one of basketball's most quoted lines. Moses Malone was born March 23, 1955, in Petersburg, Virginia, and died September 13, 2015, in Norfolk, Virginia, at age 60. Height 6 ft 10 in (208 cm).
Out of Petersburg High School, Malone became the first modern basketball player to jump straight from high school to the pros, signing with the ABA's Utah Stars in 1974. After the ABA folded in 1976, he was acquired by the NBA's Buffalo Braves and traded to the Houston Rockets, where he became the league's premier center and offensive rebounder.
Malone won three NBA MVP awards (1979, 1982, 1983). In 1982 he signed with the Philadelphia 76ers, and the following season led them to the NBA championship, sweeping the playoffs and earning Finals MVP after averaging 26 points and 18 rebounds in the series. He was a 12-time NBA All-Star and led the league in rebounding six times.
Combined ABA and NBA career totals: 29,580 points (20.3 ppg), 17,834 rebounds (12.3 rpg), 1,889 blocks (1.3 bpg). He finished his career as the all-time leader in offensive rebounds.
His No. 2 was retired by the 76ers and his No. 24 by the Rockets. Named to the NBA's 50th and 75th Anniversary Teams, and inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2001.
