Kevin Garnett biography — NBA career story, legacy, championships, awards and personal background.

Career timeline, milestones, and place among all-time greats.

Born May 19, 1976, in Greenville, South Carolina. Height 6 ft 11 in (211 cm). Known as "KG" and "The Big Ticket," Garnett is widely regarded as one of the greatest power forwards of all time, celebrated for his intensity, versatility, and defense.

He entered the NBA directly out of high school (Farragut Career Academy, Chicago), the first player to do so in 20 years. Drafted 5th overall by the Minnesota Timberwolves in the 1995 NBA Draft, he played 21 seasons (1995–2016) with Minnesota, Boston, and Brooklyn.

Garnett won the NBA MVP award in 2004 with Minnesota. Traded to the Boston Celtics in 2007, he won the NBA Defensive Player of the Year award and an NBA championship in his first season there (2008). A 15-time NBA All-Star, he was named to the All-NBA Team nine times (4 First Team) and the All-Defensive Team 12 times (9 First Team) — the most First Team All-Defensive selections in NBA history.

Career totals: 26,071 points (17.8 ppg), 14,662 rebounds (10.0 rpg), 5,445 assists (3.7 apg). He is the only NBA player to reach at least 25,000 points, 10,000 rebounds, 5,000 assists, 1,500 steals, and 1,500 blocks.

Won an Olympic gold medal with Team USA in 2000. His No. 5 was retired by the Boston Celtics in 2022. Named to the NBA 75th Anniversary Team in 2021 and inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2020.
