Nicknamed "The Mailman" for his relentless consistency — he "always delivered." Karl Malone was born July 24, 1963, in Summerfield, Louisiana. Height 6 ft 9 in (206 cm).
He played college basketball at Louisiana Tech (1982–1985). Drafted 13th overall by the Utah Jazz in 1985, he spent 18 seasons with the franchise, forming one of the most productive duos in NBA history with point guard John Stockton, before finishing his career with a single season for the Los Angeles Lakers (2003–2004).
Malone won the NBA MVP award twice (1997, 1999) and led the Jazz to back-to-back NBA Finals appearances (1997, 1998), losing both times to Michael Jordan's Chicago Bulls. A 14-time NBA All-Star, he won All-Star Game MVP twice (1989, 1993) and made the All-NBA First Team a remarkable 11 consecutive seasons (1989–1999). He won Olympic gold medals with Team USA in 1992 (as part of the original "Dream Team") and 1996.
Career totals: 36,928 points (25.0 ppg), 14,968 rebounds (10.1 rpg), 5,238 assists (3.6 apg) — his career points total ranks third all-time in NBA history, and he holds the NBA records for career free throws attempted and made.
