Career timeline, milestones, and place among all-time greats.
A rare two-way big man for his era, Elton Brand combined power near the rim with genuine shot-blocking instincts — good enough to be co-Rookie of the Year and, years later, run an NBA front office. Born March 11, 1979, in Cortlandt Manor, New York. Height 6 ft 9 in (206 cm).
He starred at Duke (1997–1999), winning national college player of the year in 1999 as a sophomore. Drafted 1st overall by the Chicago Bulls that year, he won Rookie of the Year before a 2001 trade to the Los Angeles Clippers, where he spent seven seasons as the franchise's best player. He later played for the Philadelphia 76ers, Dallas Mavericks, and Atlanta Hawks, briefly retiring before a final season back with Philadelphia in 2016.
A two-time NBA All-Star (2002, 2006), Brand made the All-NBA Second Team in 2006 and won the NBA Sportsmanship Award that same year.
Career totals: 16,827 points (15.9 ppg), 9,040 rebounds (8.5 rpg), 1,828 blocks (1.7 bpg) over 1,058 games and 17 seasons.
He now serves as general manager of the Philadelphia 76ers.
