"The Lister Blister" — a 1992 playoff dunk over Golden State's Alton Lister — became shorthand for what Shawn Kemp brought to the game: pure, thunderous athleticism at power forward. Born November 26, 1969, in Elkhart, Indiana. Height 6 ft 10 in (208 cm).
He entered the NBA directly from high school after brief, non-playing stints at Kentucky and a junior college. Drafted 17th overall by the Seattle SuperSonics in 1989, he spent eight seasons there, forming a dynamic tandem with Gary Payton that led the "Reign Man" era Sonics to the 1996 NBA Finals against Michael Jordan's Bulls.
A six-time NBA All-Star (1993–1998), Kemp made the All-NBA Second Team three times. He later played for the Cleveland Cavaliers, Portland Trail Blazers, and Orlando Magic, with his final seasons affected by weight and personal struggles that were widely covered at the time.
Career totals: 15,347 points (14.6 ppg), 8,834 rebounds (8.4 rpg), 1,279 blocks (1.2 bpg) over 14 seasons.
He won a gold medal with Team USA at the 1994 FIBA World Championship.
