01Biography

Dwight Howard biography — NBA career story, legacy, championships, awards and personal background.

Career timeline, milestones, and place among all-time greats.

"Superman" earned his nickname honestly — three straight Defensive Player of the Year awards (2009–2011) and five straight rebounding titles built around pure size and explosiveness. Born December 8, 1985, in Atlanta, Georgia. Height 6 ft 10 in (208 cm).

Drafted 1st overall by the Orlando Magic straight out of high school in 2004, Howard led the Magic to the 2009 NBA Finals before a long run through the Los Angeles Lakers, Houston Rockets, Atlanta Hawks, Charlotte Hornets, Washington Wizards, and Philadelphia 76ers, with two later stints back in Los Angeles.

An eight-time All-Star and five-time All-NBA First Team member, Howard won the 2008 Slam Dunk Contest and finally captured an NBA championship with the Lakers in the 2020 bubble season.

Career totals over 18 seasons and 1,242 games: 19,485 points (15.7 ppg), 14,627 rebounds (11.8 rpg), 2,228 blocks (1.8 bpg).

Inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2025.
