Opponents called it "The Torture Chamber" — Kevin McHale's arsenal of post moves, built on unusually long arms and elite footwork, made him nearly unguardable one-on-one. Born December 19, 1957, in Hibbing, Minnesota. Height 6 ft 10 in (208 cm).
He played at Minnesota (1976–1980). Drafted 3rd overall by the Boston Celtics in 1980, he spent his entire 13-season career with the franchise, initially coming off the bench and winning Sixth Man of the Year twice (1984, 1985) before becoming a full-time starter.
Alongside Larry Bird and Robert Parish, McHale helped form one of the greatest frontcourts in NBA history, winning three championships (1981, 1984, 1986). A seven-time All-Star, he made the All-NBA First Team once and the All-Defensive First Team three times, leading the league in field goal percentage in back-to-back seasons.
Career totals: 17,335 points (17.9 ppg), 7,122 rebounds (7.3 rpg), 1,690 blocks (1.7 bpg) over 971 games.
His No. 32 was retired by the Celtics. Named to the NBA's 50th and 75th Anniversary Teams. Inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 1999. He later had a long career as an NBA executive and head coach.
