They called him "The Human Highlight Film" for a reason — Dominique Wilkins's aerial dunk battles, especially against Michael Jordan, remain some of the most replayed moments in NBA history. Born January 12, 1960, in Paris, France, while his father was stationed there in the U.S. Air Force. Height 6 ft 8 in (203 cm).
He starred at Georgia (1979–1982), earning SEC Player of the Year in 1981. Drafted 3rd overall by the Utah Jazz in 1982 and immediately traded to the Atlanta Hawks — a deal now considered one of the most lopsided in league history — he spent 12 seasons as the face of the franchise before later playing for the Los Angeles Clippers, Boston Celtics, and San Antonio Spurs, with stints in Greece and Italy along the way.
Wilkins won the NBA scoring title in 1986 at 30.3 points per game and twice won the Slam Dunk Contest. A nine-time NBA All-Star, he made the All-NBA Team seven times, scoring 20-plus points per game in 11 consecutive seasons despite an Achilles tear in 1992 that threatened to end his career.
Career totals: 26,668 points (24.8 ppg), 7,169 rebounds (6.7 rpg), 2.5 assists per game over 1,074 games and 15 seasons.
His No. 21 was retired by the Atlanta Hawks. Named to the NBA 75th Anniversary Team in 2021. Inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2006.
