Nicknamed "Teach" for his methodical, almost professorial approach to scoring, Adrian Dantley built a Hall of Fame career on footwork and free-throw craft rather than pure athleticism. Born February 26, 1955, in Washington, D.C. Height 6 ft 5 in (196 cm).
He starred at Notre Dame (1973–1976), helping end UCLA's 88-game winning streak in 1974 and winning the Naismith Player of the Year-era Oscar Robertson Trophy. Drafted 6th overall by the Buffalo Braves in 1976, he won Rookie of the Year before a well-traveled career that took him through the Indiana Pacers, Los Angeles Lakers, Utah Jazz, Detroit Pistons, Dallas Mavericks, and Milwaukee Bucks.
A six-time NBA All-Star, Dantley won two NBA scoring titles (1981, 1984) and the Comeback Player of the Year award in 1984, the same season he led the league in scoring at 30.6 points per game.
Career totals: 23,177 points (24.3 ppg), 5,455 rebounds (5.7 rpg), 2,830 assists (3.0 apg) over 955 games and 15 seasons — his career field-goal percentage of .540 was among the highest ever recorded for a wing scorer at the time.
His No. 4 was retired by the Utah Jazz. Inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2008.
