01Biography

Carmelo Anthony biography — NBA career story, legacy, championships, awards and personal background.

Career timeline, milestones, and place among all-time greats.

Three Olympic gold medals make Carmelo Anthony the most decorated men's basketball player in U.S. Olympic history — a distinction that sits alongside a 19-year NBA career defined by pure scoring. Born May 29, 1984, in Brooklyn, New York. Height 6 ft 7 in (201 cm).

He won the 2003 NCAA championship at Syracuse as a freshman, earning Final Four Most Outstanding Player honors before turning pro. Drafted 3rd overall by the Denver Nuggets in 2003, he spent eight seasons there before a 2011 trade to the New York Knicks, later playing for the Oklahoma City Thunder, Houston Rockets, Portland Trail Blazers, and Los Angeles Lakers.

Nicknamed "Melo," Anthony won an NBA scoring title in 2013 with the Knicks, averaging 28.7 points per game. A 10-time NBA All-Star, he made the All-NBA Team six times and won Olympic gold in 2008, 2012, and 2016 (plus a bronze in 2004).

Career totals: 28,289 points (22.5 ppg), 7,808 rebounds (6.2 rpg), 3,422 assists (2.7 apg) — he averaged at least 20 points per game in each of his first 14 seasons.

Named to the NBA 75th Anniversary Team. He retired in 2023 and was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.
