01Biography

Tim Hardaway biography — NBA career story, legacy, championships, awards and personal background.

Career timeline, milestones, and place among all-time greats.

The "UTEP Two-Step" crossover became his signature — a stutter-step move so effective it forced defenders to guess, and it helped make Tim Hardaway one of the game's most dynamic point guards of the 1990s. Born September 1, 1966, in Chicago, Illinois. Height 6 ft 0 in (183 cm).

He starred at UTEP (1985–1989), winning WAC Player of the Year. Drafted 14th overall by the Golden State Warriors in 1989, he formed the popular "Run TMC" trio with Mitch Richmond and Chris Mullin before a 1996 trade to the Miami Heat, where he spent five more seasons as an All-Star anchor.

A five-time NBA All-Star, Hardaway made the All-NBA First Team once (1997) and led the league in assists in the 1996–97 season. He finished his career with brief stints for the Dallas Mavericks, Denver Nuggets, and Indiana Pacers.

Career totals: 15,373 points (17.7 ppg), 7,095 assists (8.2 apg), 2,855 rebounds (3.3 rpg) over 867 games and 13 seasons.

His No. 10 was retired by the Miami Heat. He won an Olympic gold medal with Team USA in 2000. Inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.
