Speed and vertical explosiveness made John Wall one of the most electrifying open-court point guards of his era — a game defined as much by highlight dunks as it was later defined by injury. Born September 6, 1990, in Raleigh, North Carolina. Height 6 ft 3 in (188 cm).
He played one season at Kentucky (2009–2010), winning SEC Player of the Year. Drafted 1st overall by the Washington Wizards in 2010, he spent nine seasons as the face of the franchise before a 2020 trade sent him to the Houston Rockets in exchange for Russell Westbrook; he finished his career with the Los Angeles Clippers.
A five-time NBA All-Star, Wall won the Slam Dunk Contest in 2014, made the All-NBA Third Team in 2017, and the All-Defensive Second Team in 2015. Injuries, including multiple knee issues, limited his final four seasons.
Career totals: 18.7 points, 8.9 assists, 4.2 rebounds, and 1.6 steals per game over 11 seasons — he retired as the fourth-leading scorer in Wizards franchise history.
He announced his retirement in August 2025.
