01Biography

Mark Price biography — NBA career story, legacy, championships, awards and personal background.

Career timeline, milestones, and place among all-time greats.

Considered pound-for-pound one of the purest shooters the NBA has ever produced, Mark Price retired with the second-best career free-throw percentage in league history. Born February 15, 1964, in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. Height 6 ft 0 in (183 cm).

He starred at Georgia Tech (1982–1986), leading the ACC in scoring as a freshman in a conference that included a young Michael Jordan. Overlooked in the draft's early rounds, he was selected 25th overall by the Dallas Mavericks in 1986 and immediately traded to the Cleveland Cavaliers, where he spent nine seasons running one of the era's most efficient offenses alongside Brad Daugherty.

A four-time NBA All-Star, Price made the All-NBA First Team once (1993) and won the Three-Point Contest twice (1993, 1994). He finished his career with brief stints for the Washington Bullets, Golden State Warriors, and Orlando Magic.

Career totals: 10,989 points (15.2 ppg), 4,863 assists (6.7 apg), 1,848 rebounds (2.6 rpg) over 722 games and 12 seasons — his .904 career free-throw percentage still ranks second all-time.

His No. 25 was retired by the Cleveland Cavaliers. He went on to a long career as an NBA shooting coach and college head coach.
