Ten straight All-Star selections and a career that started with the Syracuse Nationals and ended with the Philadelphia 76ers — Hal Greer's stayed with one franchise through its relocation and cemented himself as one of the most consistent guards of the 1960s. Born June 26, 1936, in Huntington, West Virginia. Died April 14, 2018, in Phoenix, Arizona, at age 81. Height 6 ft 2 in (188 cm).
The first Black athlete to play for Marshall University, he starred there from 1955 to 1958. Drafted 13th overall by the Syracuse Nationals in 1958, he played his entire 15-season career with the franchise as it relocated and became the Philadelphia 76ers in 1963.
Greer was a 10-time NBA All-Star (1961–1970), won the 1968 All-Star Game MVP, and made the All-NBA Second Team seven times. He was the second-leading scorer on Philadelphia's legendary 1966–67 championship team, which ended the Celtics' run of eight straight titles.
Career totals: 21,586 points (19.2 ppg), 5,665 rebounds (5.0 rpg), 4,540 assists (4.0 apg) over 1,122 games — a record for games played at the time.
His No. 15 was retired by the Philadelphia 76ers. Named to the NBA's 50th and 75th Anniversary Teams. Inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 1982.
