His name became inseparable from a single, infamous incident — choking coach P.J. Carlesimo at practice in 1997 — but "Spree" was also a genuine four-time All-Star who helped carry a team to the NBA Finals. Born September 8, 1970, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Height 6 ft 5 in (196 cm).
He played at Alabama (1990–1992) after starting at a junior college. Drafted 24th overall by the Golden State Warriors in 1992, he was traded to the New York Knicks in 1999 following a 68-game suspension for the Carlesimo incident, and helped lead New York to the 1999 NBA Finals as the eighth seed. He later played for the Minnesota Timberwolves, reaching the 2004 Western Conference Finals.
A four-time NBA All-Star, Sprewell made the All-NBA First Team once (1994) and the All-Defensive Second Team once.
Career totals: 16,712 points (18.3 ppg), 3,664 assists (4.0 apg), 1,294 steals (1.4 spg) over 913 games and 13 seasons.
