Ben Roethlisberger biography and NFL career overview.
Benjamin Todd Roethlisberger Sr. is a former quarterback born March 2, 1982, in Lima, Ohio (6'5", 240 lbs). He played his entire 18-year career (2004–2021) with the Pittsburgh Steelers after being drafted 11th overall out of Miami (Ohio) in 2004. He's a two-time Super Bowl champion, six-time Pro Bowler, and Offensive Rookie of the Year.
Roethlisberger starred at Miami University, where he set a string of school and MAC passing records and became known for the electric "MACtion" broadcasts that first put him on the national radar. Pittsburgh took him 11th overall in 2004, and he immediately went 13–0 as a rookie starter, sweeping Offensive Rookie of the Year honors.
In 2006, at age 23, Roethlisberger became the youngest quarterback to win a Super Bowl, leading Pittsburgh past Seattle in Super Bowl XL. He won a second title in Super Bowl XLIII, throwing the game-winning touchdown to Santonio Holmes with 35 seconds left against Arizona. He reached a third Super Bowl in 2010, a loss to Green Bay.
Known for extending plays outside the pocket in a style he called "backyard football," Roethlisberger led the league in passing yards twice (2014, 2018) and set numerous franchise and NFL records, including four career games with a perfect passer rating. He retired in 2022 ranked fifth all-time in passing yards (64,088) and eighth in touchdowns (418).
Off the field, Roethlisberger's career was shadowed by two sexual-assault allegations in 2009 and 2010 — the second of which led to a four-game NFL suspension — though no criminal charges were filed in either case. Since retiring, he has run a podcast and stayed closely tied to the Steelers organization.
