Traded away by the team that drafted him before he ever suited up for them, Steve Francis forced his way to Houston and immediately delivered on the hype, sharing Rookie of the Year honors with Elton Brand. Born February 21, 1977, in Takoma Park, Maryland. Height 6 ft 3 in (191 cm).
After stops at two junior colleges, he played one season at Maryland (1998–1999). Drafted 2nd overall by the Vancouver Grizzlies in 1999, he refused to report and was traded to the Houston Rockets, where he spent parts of two stints as the franchise's dynamic, highlight-reel point guard. He also played for the Orlando Magic and New York Knicks, and closed his career with a season for the Beijing Ducks in China.
Nicknamed "Stevie Franchise," he was a three-time NBA All-Star (2002–2004), known for an explosive first step and highlight dunks unusual for a player his size.
