Traded for Adrian Dantley in a swap of two dominant scorers, Mark Aguirre found something in Detroit he'd never found in Dallas — a championship. Born December 10, 1959, in Chicago, Illinois. Height 6 ft 6 in (198 cm).
He starred at DePaul (1978–1981), winning the Naismith College Player of the Year award in 1980 after leading the team to the 1979 Final Four. Drafted 1st overall by the Dallas Mavericks in 1981, he spent eight seasons there as a prolific scorer before a 1989 trade to the Detroit Pistons, where he became a key role player on the "Bad Boys" championship teams.
A three-time NBA All-Star (1984, 1987, 1988), Aguirre averaged a career-high 29.5 points in the 1983–84 season, second in the league that year. He won back-to-back NBA championships with Detroit (1989, 1990) and closed his career with a season for the Los Angeles Clippers.
Career totals: 18,458 points (20.0 ppg), 4,578 rebounds (5.0 rpg), 2,818 assists (3.1 apg) over 923 games and 13 seasons.
His No. 24 was retired by both the Dallas Mavericks and DePaul.
