01Biography

Vin Baker biography — NBA career story, legacy, championships, awards and personal background.

Career timeline, milestones, and place among all-time greats.

Four straight All-Star selections to start his career made Vin Baker look destined for stardom — and while injuries and personal struggles later slowed him, his early peak remains one of the more underappreciated stretches of 1990s big-man play. Born November 23, 1971, in Lake Wales, Florida. Height 6 ft 11 in (211 cm).

Overlooked by major programs, he starred at Hartford (1989–1993), winning America East Player of the Year. Drafted 8th overall by the Milwaukee Bucks in 1993, he made four consecutive All-Star teams (1995–1998) before a 1997 trade to the Seattle SuperSonics, where he earned All-NBA honors twice.

He later played for the Boston Celtics, New York Knicks, Houston Rockets, and Los Angeles Clippers, closing out a 13-season career in 2006.

Career totals: 11,839 points (15.0 ppg), 5,867 rebounds (7.4 rpg), 1,509 assists (1.9 apg) over 791 games.

He won an Olympic gold medal with Team USA in 2000. After retiring, Baker built a well-documented second act, eventually returning to the NBA as an assistant coach with the Milwaukee Bucks, where he won a championship ring in 2021.
