The shot that clinched Cleveland's first NBA championship — a step-back three over Stephen Curry with under a minute left in Game 7 of the 2016 Finals — remains one of the most replayed moments in league history, and it belongs to Kyrie Irving. Born March 23, 1992, in Melbourne, Australia. Height 6 ft 2 in (188 cm).
He played just 11 games at Duke (2010–2011) before a foot injury cut his freshman season short, but it was enough to make him the 1st overall pick by the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2011, where he won Rookie of the Year. He later played for the Boston Celtics, Brooklyn Nets, and now the Dallas Mavericks.
A nine-time NBA All-Star, Irving won the 2014 All-Star Game MVP and an NBA championship alongside LeBron James in 2016. Regarded as one of the greatest ball-handlers in basketball history, he won an Olympic gold medal with Team USA in 2016.
Career totals: 23.7 points, 5.6 assists, and 4.1 rebounds per game over 779 games and 14 seasons — he scored a career-high 60 points in a single game in 2022.
Currently with the Dallas Mavericks, working back from a torn ACL suffered during the 2025–26 season.
