The behind-the-back dribble and no-look pass weren't supposed to be part of serious basketball until Bob Cousy made them the foundation of a dynasty. Born August 9, 1928, in New York City. Height 6 ft 1 in (185 cm).
He starred at Holy Cross (1946–1950), winning the 1947 NCAA championship. Drafted 3rd overall by the Tri-Cities Blackhawks in 1950 — he refused to report and ended up with the Boston Celtics instead, where he played until 1963, plus a brief return with the Cincinnati Royals in 1969–70.
Nicknamed "The Houdini of the Hardwood," Cousy won the NBA MVP award in 1957 and led the league in assists a record eight consecutive seasons (1953–1960). Alongside Bill Russell, he anchored six Celtics championships. A 13-time All-Star, he won the All-Star Game MVP twice and made the All-NBA First Team ten times.
Career totals: 16,960 points (18.4 ppg), 6,955 assists (7.5 apg), 4,786 rebounds (5.2 rpg) over 924 games.
His No. 14 was retired by the Celtics. Named to the NBA's 25th, 35th, 50th, and 75th Anniversary Teams. Inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 1971. He was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2019.
