01Biography

Full biography of Scottie Pippen — NBA career timeline, legacy, and impact on basketball history.

Career story, milestones, and place among the all-time greats.

At 6-foot-1 and 150 pounds, no college would give him a scholarship — Scottie Pippen ended up a walk-on and grew into arguably the greatest two-way small forward in NBA history. Born September 25, 1965, in Hamburg, Arkansas. Height 6 ft 8 in (203 cm) by the time he reached the pros.

He played college basketball at Central Arkansas (1983–1987). Drafted 5th overall by the Seattle SuperSonics in 1987 and immediately traded to the Chicago Bulls, he spent most of his 17-season career in Chicago (1987–1998, 2003–2004), with stints for the Houston Rockets (1999) and Portland Trail Blazers (1999–2003) in between.

Pippen won six NBA championships alongside Michael Jordan (1991–1993, 1996–1998). A seven-time NBA All-Star, he won the 1994 All-Star Game MVP, made the All-NBA First Team three times, and was named to the All-Defensive First Team a league-record-tying eight straight times (1992–1999). He won two Olympic gold medals with Team USA, including as a member of the original 1992 "Dream Team."

Career totals: 18,940 points (16.1 ppg), 7,494 rebounds (6.4 rpg), 6,135 assists (5.2 apg) over 1,178 games.

His No. 33 was retired by the Bulls. Named to the NBA's 50th and 75th Anniversary Teams. Inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2010.
