01Biography

George Kittle biography and NFL career overview.

George Krieger Kittle is a tight end for the San Francisco 49ers, born October 9, 1993, in Madison, Wisconsin (6'4", 250 lbs). He played college football at Iowa and was a relatively unheralded fifth-round pick of the 49ers in 2017. He's a seven-time Pro Bowler and two-time first-team All-Pro (2019, 2023).

Kittle's production exploded in just his second season, when he broke the NFL single-season receiving yardage record for a tight end with 1,377 yards — a mark that stood for less than an hour before Travis Kelce broke it hours later the same day. Combining blocking toughness with big-play speed, Kittle became one of the most complete tight ends in the league, earning first-team All-Pro honors in 2019 en route to a Super Bowl LIV appearance.

He signed a then-record contract for tight ends in 2020 and continued producing at an elite level despite recurring injuries, posting four separate 1,000-yard seasons — tied for the second-most by a tight end in NFL history behind only Kelce. He returned to the Super Bowl again in 2024, though a shoulder injury in overtime of Super Bowl LVIII ended that game early for him.

In April 2025, Kittle signed a new extension making him the league's highest-paid tight end. His 2025 season and playoff run ended when he tore his Achilles tendon during San Francisco's Wild Card win over Philadelphia.

Known for his physical, high-effort style and playful personality — including a pro-wrestling-inspired touchdown celebration — Kittle is widely regarded as one of the most complete tight ends of his generation.
