01Biography

Fred Warner biography and NFL career overview.

Federico Anthony Warner is a linebacker for the San Francisco 49ers, born November 19, 1996, in San Marcos, California (6'3", 230 lbs). He played college football at BYU and was drafted by the 49ers in the third round of the 2018 NFL Draft, where he's spent his entire career. He's a four-time first-team All-Pro and four-time Pro Bowler.

Warner stepped into a starting role as a rookie and never looked back, developing into the signal-caller and anchor of San Francisco's defense. He helped lead the 49ers to Super Bowl LIV in his second season, intercepting Patrick Mahomes in the loss, and returned to the Super Bowl again in Super Bowl LVIII following the 2023 season.

His breakout arrived in 2020 with his first All-Pro selection, and he's added three more since — in 2022, 2023, and 2024 — establishing himself as the premier linebacker in the league. In 2024, he became the first player in 49ers franchise history to record 10-plus career sacks and 10-plus interceptions.

Warner has been rewarded accordingly, signing a then-record extension for a linebacker in 2021 before topping it in 2025 with a three-year, $63 million deal that made him the highest-paid linebacker in NFL history.

A dislocated and broken ankle ended his 2025 season early, but Warner remains regarded as one of the smartest and most complete linebackers in the game, known for his sideline-to-sideline range and command of San Francisco's defense.
