Career timeline, milestones, and place among all-time greats.
Nicknamed "The Stifle Tower," Rudy Gobert has turned rim protection into a form of statistical dominance rarely seen at his position — a four-time Defensive Player of the Year without a single game of standout scoring to his name. Born June 26, 1992, in Saint-Quentin, France. Height 7 ft 1 in (216 cm), with a 7-foot-9 wingspan.
He turned pro with Cholet in France before being drafted 27th overall by the Denver Nuggets in 2013 and immediately traded to the Utah Jazz, where he spent nine seasons before a 2022 trade to the Minnesota Timberwolves.
Gobert has won the NBA Defensive Player of the Year award four times (2018, 2019, 2021, 2024), tied for the most in league history alongside Dikembe Mutombo and Ben Wallace. A three-time NBA All-Star, he has made the All-Defensive First Team eight times, led the league in rebounding once (2022) and in blocks once (2017).
Career totals: 12.5 points, 11.7 rebounds, and 2.0 blocks per game over 905 games and 13 seasons — remarkably, he has never made an NBA three-point shot.
He represents France internationally, winning a bronze medal at the 2014 and 2019 FIBA World Cups. Currently an active player with the Minnesota Timberwolves.
